MoBiol Algae Institute Corporation is a R&D company located in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture.
Our goals are to provide the techno-economic solution for environmental problems concerning to POME (Palm Oil Mill Effluent) and also to provide algae-based biofuel alternative to fossil oil.
In Indonesia and Malaysia, the world’s first and second-largest palm oil-producing countries, methane gas emission and water pollution caused by POME are critical environmental and economic problems. Indonesia has changed from fossil oil exporting country to importing country since 2004 with increasing energy demand aligned with the promotion of modernization and industrialization, and the development of alternative renewable oil resources has become one of the top priority issues in this country.
Our main focus is Algae, which perceive as the most promising resources and the establishment of MoBiol Corporation with its core business in technology development are solutions to these issues.
MoBiol has prolific scientific knowledge and technological base in microalgae department, such as establishing culture technologies matching for various microalgae species, and developing innumerable unique and innovative technologies to produce lipids, feeds, fertilizers, fuels and high-value products from microalgae.
MoBiol Holdings Pte Ltd located in Singapore is operating as a business headquarter of the MoBiol Group for further business expansion in a global scale and for the Group first regional partner, named PT MoBiol Algae Indonesia in Jakarta, which possessed strength and significant function domestically.

This is the philosophy of Professor Makoto M. Watanabe who is one of the MoBiol founders.
Algae have played a vital role in creating the earth in its present from Approximately 3 billion years ago, when nearly all of the earth’s atmosphere consisted of carbon dioxide, the first algae (Cyanobacteria) appeared and began photosynthesis. The oxygen generated in this reaction, and changed the atmosphere into an oxygen-rich composition. The algae that had flourished vigorously up until 100 million years ago sank to the ocean floor, and in a high-temperature, high-pressure environment, were gradually converted into petroleum. It can be said that human civilization was made possible thanks to algae.
I believe his words as “Useful things in the world today that you can see, will become useless in the future, and what you need for the future is something you can’t see right now”.

We focused on Aurantiochytrium of more than 10 million algal species including undescried species estimated to exist on earth. MoBiol always works to create a better future, to produce vital ingredients, and to build a low-carbon society by utilizing high potentials of Aurantiochytrium.
